こま犬
Guardian Lion-dogs

犬は多産でお産が軽く、毎年子供を産むことから、平安時代より安産・多産・育児の象徴とされていた。

この犬にあやかり、暦の「戌の日に腹帯」を巻いて「犬張り子のこま犬」を飾る風習がある。

Dogs have been a symbol of fertility and safe birth since the Heian period as they can give birth each year, and can give birth to many young and have safe pregnancies.

There is a custom of decorating the house with a papier-mâché guardian lion-dog and wrapping a maternity girdle on the Chinese day of the dog to bring the luck of this dog (for a safe pregnancy).
